Skamos was a child, born into a small fishing village, no stranger to the familiar sting of salt in the air and the scent of fish tingling his nose. Nestled near a desert coast, the village proved to be hot, creating a brutal environment for those who couldn't withstand the conditions, even natives. Skamos’ parents consisted of a unique combination of a red Tiefling and a human. At the age of just eleven, Skamos’ thoughts were occupied more and more by adventure. He itched to expand his horizons beyond what his little village provided. No fear in his heart, he dreamed up taking up weapons and magic, wishing to conquer monsters and deadly creatures in grandiose battle. On one fateful day, sudden threatening dark clouds billowed in, creating an ominous overcast. Squinting ahead from the fishing docks, Skamos spotted an unfamiliar man standing atop one of the dunes that towered over his home, gripping a staff in his hand. Witnessing one thrust forward of the stranger's long weapon, swaths of shadow crept in with alarming speed. It spread over every inch, covering his village like a dark blanket, smothering the light. Deep, endless shadows made nothing discernable, creating almost a blindness. Screams erupted forth from the strange man in Skamos direction, who quickly discovered that the horrible noises seem to originate from the darkness itself. The intensity of the agony chilled Skamos with fear.Endless screams echoed all around the shadows and a pair of red eyes within the abyss caught Skamos’ eyes, who found himself unable to look away. An abrupt touch on the boy's arm yanked him out of his. reverie, and Skamos slowly came to the realization that he was staring up at the local cleric of his village. Alarm filled the cleric’s face and he forced Skamos to move away, off to a place only few know.Skamos's vision became a blur, as darkness was all he seemingly knew for a while. It was like traveling blind, unable to seek out familiar landmarks or locations. His home was unrecognizable to even himself. After a while of running, a sudden, bright light filled the space between him and the cleric. the light was so blinding it caused Skamos to shield his eyes. A minute later, the glow died and returned to an already familiar darkness.Blindingly searching out in front of himself, Skamos scooted closer to the man's shoes scuffing against the pavement, alerting the boy of his location. “What's going on?” the boy blurted out in a barely concealed whisper. “Shush. Keep your head down, and your tongue quiet.”Skamos did as he was told, not sure what the cleric would do if he said all the questions that bubbled within. Screams assaulted Skamos's ears once again, now off in the near distance. He wasn't sure how long they were sitting there for. The darkness ripped away much of his own orientation, not knowing where he even was. The only thing he knew was of his own heart, wildly pounding in his chest, threatening to burst through. The screaming went on for what seemed like hours, and over time the cacophony of agony grated his ears. Time seemed to slow to a devastating crawl as death seemed to follow them whenever they went. After an unknown stretch of time, everything went silent. The pure, dead silence that stretched out creeped Skamos out, now accustomed to hearing the screams all around them. With a shuffle, Skamos heard something being lifted above himself and then slam shut a moment later. “Looks like the coast is clear,” the man's gruff voice rang out.Skamos looked up, giving the cleric who saved him a good look for the first time. The boy noticed his heavy, dark looking armor that fitted around his slightly bulk body, and Skamos's nose twitched unpleasantly, coming to finally realize the scent of death and decay that clung around them was coming from the older man. “Who are you?” the boy asked. The man bore into the child's eyes. “I'm a Cleric of Kelemovr, God of death and passing.”From that day on, Skamos honed his skills over the years with the cleric as his mentor. He trained to become a cleric of Kelemovr in order to fulfill his dreams to set out on an adventure like he always imagined. Some time later, he would find himself at the Tealeaf Adventuring Company, which was a mansion originally owned by the Tealeaf trade family.Under the Tealeaf banner, Skamos would successfully complete many missions and quests. His adventures would take him far from what he knew, and met a variety of races along the way, fulfilling his biggest desires. After some years, Skamos separated from Tealeaf, setting out on his own solo quests. Along the way he encounters two other adventurers who were being chased by shadow creatures.Skamos instantly recognized the shadowy menaces, knowing it was the same creatures who destroyed his own village. Helping them out, Skamos eventually decided to party up with these two, discovering one was a dragon in disguise and an elf. They traveled for a while together, eventually landing up at a stronghold. There, Skamos met Cembi, a dragonborn soldier who was stationed there. Through meeting, the pair quickly developed a close bond. Years passed and the two would share a daughter named Arialypsis. She was one of a kind, born half dragonborn, half tiefling, she easily carried features clear from both parents.Settled down for a while raising his daughter, eventually Skamos would don his armor and head out again. Consumed with revenge, he was to find the man who attacked his small village. The same man who would be the one to abduct his precious daughter, Arialypsis. Desperate to find her, Skamos eventually was given the chance to confront the man and the horrifying discovery of what was done. His enemy had implanted a device that allowed the girl to become a portal to allow the monsters, the same monsters that destroyed his home into the plane of existence. With tears down his face, Skamos faced the hard choice to end his daughter's life by rendering her to nothing but ash. But by doing so, it stopped the curse haunting him, along with the terrible shadows that followed their plane of existence.Becoming a shell of who he once was, the man traveled back to his childhood village, finding it rebuilt and thriving. He took residence in the old cathedral. It didn't take long for rumors began to spread on the tongues of the village inhabitants that a demon lived among them. Loud sobbing was frequently heard and whoever traveled too close to the cathedral was cut down ruthlessly causing villagers much stress. The strange rumors would eventually catch the attention of the Jhinn Hunters: a specialized organization that trains gifted individuals to hunt demons and evil Jhinn. Two members would be set to investigate, one named Bihal, and his student Nura, who was cloaked in all red. They entered the cathedral with Nura wondering aloud who the structure must've belonged to.“This is all for a God who is long forgotten.” Bahil answered, his words echoing off the empty walls. The practice of the following of the ancient god Kelemovr has long been lost to time, among other gods. The pair searched deep within the ancient monument, finding heaps of ash in the corners and strewn about clothes everywhere. They eventually find their target, Skamos, who has now withered and is wasting away in a makeshift cot.“Ah, so the Jhinn Hunters are here.” He chuckled weakly between a raspy fit of coughs. The tired man struggles to stand, his eyes landing on a mirror. A somber smile crosses his features. “Have you ever lost something so dear to you, you become the very thing you hate?”The heavy question hung in the space between the three, with a stretch of silence accompanying it.“It doesn't have to be like this.” Bihal speaks up hesitantly. After a moment, the now decrepit cleric turned to face the two hunters. Despite his appearance, Skamos glared into the other man's eyes, his eyes shining with such a sharp intensity that made the hunter’s hair raise.“It has to be this way, this is the path I choose. I hope you get out of the race before it comes back around.” With that said, Skamos turned his back to the two, moving various items around his makeshift room. “Meet me in the courtyard,” he demanded, and the pair left to do so.Bihal and Nura waited at the courtyard, to be greeted by their opponent. Skamos strode towards them, garbed in half plate and armed with an intimidating scythe that ran the same height as him. He settled himself in his place in the courtyard. Six pairs of wings flared out from his back as he slowly ascended to the air, showing his true form. Skamos flourished his scythe. “Do not hold back on me Jhinn hunter. I want this to be worth this flare.” With that said, he charged in.Hours passed and Bihal stood ragged, bleeding as he gripped Skamos’ right horn in his hand. Skamos stood before them a good distance away with a scimitar sticking out from his clavicle.“Finally, thank you.” Skamos responded between coughs filled with blood.A sudden column of light engulfed the withered man's figure. Bihal and his student watched squinting as Skamos was dragged up into the sky.Skamos friends and loved ones flashed before his eyes as he continued to ascend. He started to hear the strange murmur of chatter and the noises of a city full of life. Skamos trained his eyes on his surroundings, no longer before Bihal and the girl, but now witnessing strange folk of different appearances he can't even begin to describe.Running to a window, he immediately took notice that his own appearance has vastly changed, but his horn remained broken. A ghostly reminder of his last battle. Suddenly, he felt a tug on his shirt. Turning around, he witnessed a strange, stout wolf girl garbed in maid attire.“This way, Sir. I must show you your home.” The girl calmly explained. Following her lead, she brought him before the same cathedral he once resided before, but the appearance was drastically changed. A lush forest flourished around it, along with homes dotted around its perimeter.Skamos slowly stepped into the cathedral's main hall, quickly noticing that people have made a living there, just like he did before. Making his way around, he looked up at a giant painting that was displayed before himself. He dropped to his knees as his eyes welled up with tears, staring straight into the face of his own daughter, who was painted with great care and admiration. Looking at her beautiful features after all these years that resembled his own filled Skamos with such a deep regret, but he forced himself back to his feet, renewed determination filling him with strength.“I have a purpose here. And I will find it.”
